a german bar with midwestern roots
Rhein Haus Denver has been serving up bier, brats, and good times since 2015, right in the heart of downtown. Housed in what was once an Old Chicago (a spot co-owner Rich Fox used to frequent back in the day), the space has been transformed into a bright, welcoming beer hall with four indoor bocce courts, 24 taps featuring German brews and local favorites, and a menu full of house-made sausages, pretzels, and classic Bavarian comfort food—all made fresh in-haus, every day.
This location was a natural next step after the original Rhein Haus opened in Seattle in 2013. When Rich and fellow co-owner Matt Fundingsland—who grew up just down the road—heard the space was available, they knew it was the perfect fit. Together with the rest of the Yes Parade Restaurant Group (based in Washington), they’ve built something that feels both familiar and festive: a place where locals, visitors, and sports fans alike can gather for a meal, a match, or a round of bocce.
Since then, the Rhein Haus family has grown to include locations in Leavenworth, WA (a Bavarian-style village in the Cascades), and Seattle, with each spot reflecting the team’s deep Midwestern roots and shared love of hospitality. Here in Denver, we’re just a short walk from Ball Arena and the Colorado Convention Center, making us a go-to for pre-game beers, post-conference bites, and everything in between.
And if you’re craving a little Midwest comfort, our sister restaurant—Wally’s Wisconsin Tavern—is right next door, serving up cheese curds, fried pickles, and other Wisco classics. You can even order from Wally’s menu while hanging out at Rhein Haus. Because around here, we believe in sharing space, sharing food, and making everyone feel at home.
